Radiator Repair Training

Our shop is one of the most innovative in the Eastern region, utilizing all health and safety precautions in an EPA friendly environment. We are NARSA Heavy Duty Certified, which is the highest distinction of ability awarded to those involved in the Heat Transfer Industry. Today our 18,000 square ft. facility contains 16 service bays where we do automotive and truck repairs of all types. Although we are Cooling System Specialists, our scope reaches out to many different levels of mobile repair and service.

We try to make Radiator Repair Training a total hands-on experience. Our "course" is more of an apprentice type program where our "students" come to work directly in our shop, with close supervision by our Shop Foreman, who has 28 years experience in the field. We begin with the basic metallurgy concepts - what metals we use, and how to properly clean them and prep for repair. We teach common failure modes, and what to look for in particular applications. We teach how to anticipate the heat transfer needs depending upon the application. Then we teach repair techniques of all kinds of heat exchangers. We see radiators and heat exchangers of all shapes and sizes here. From motorcycle rads to hospital generator units, we service them all. Our students will be a part of this service and will be exposed to many different applications and repairs. We will cover cleaning, soldering, light brazing and torch welding, also aluminum brazing and epoxy repairs. We also clean and repair fuel tanks and oil coolers of all kinds.

The training costs $200 per day per person. One week of training is recommended for most students. All materials are provided, including an individual test tank and work station, all cleaning materials, brushes and tools, solder, torches. Each student will have one-on-one instruction by our staff. At the completion of the course each student will receive a NARSA Radiator Repair Manual and also a Repair School Certificate indicating his completion of our course. Each student will also leave with a toll-free help line number for assistance after his instruction. And of course we stock and distribute all equipment and materials used in the shop here at Rocky Mount Radiator.
